Love and self publishing

Mhairi and I are on a mission to travel around the great photographic locations of Scotland. We have both being doing this ourselves for a few years as a hobby. Last year we met and fell in love. We got engaged on the Isle of Harris and were married on Rosamol beach on the Island in October 2011.

On our last visit we ended up making each day a photo-shoot of our favourite locations on the island. Realising we had a good way of working we combined our photographs with another passion of reading the history and culture of the places we were visiting and adding more extensive notes to our pictures to capture the full experience of the place.

We use apple’s Aperture for processing our digital photographs and I had been making books for our own enjoyment. However, printing photo-books is an expensive business, which in the current climate we could ill afford. Realising that anyone we showed them to said we should sell them we decided to give it a try. Easier said than done as neither of us want to sell something we wouldn’t appreciate paying for.

After taking about four weeks of selecting photographs and writing accompanying text we spent more than the same time again proof reading, fact checking with our books (and few email questions to experts) and reprocessing photographs to their maximum quality, we were ready to publish. Also easier said than done.

You can join us on this journey of travel, taking a photographic view and self publishing quality eBooks by keeping up with this blog.
