Pinterest sends my Flickr wild

Picture of waterfall at the Fairy Pools Isle of Skye

Never heard of PIN interest until my FLIKR views for this photograph of mine went rocketing. It all seemed to stem from a Joseph Talley selecting it for his pinterest website. Thanks Joseph.

Rory Callan- Jones on the BBC wrote on his BBC blog about Pinterest. He reports it as the next big thing on the social web and that’s because it is particularly popular with women.

I love putting photographs on FLIKR because not only do I get feedback on whether other people like my pictures but there are thousands of outstanding images from all over the world.

Sometimes I get lots of views for strange reasons such as a picture I called ‘red hair day’ of a girl with bright dyed red hair, which got over 1,000 views in matter of days. Turns out there is a red hair day in the Netherlands and lots of Dutch folk must have googled Red Hair Day and got my picture instead. There is a lesson there in marketing photographs. Another example was a picture I labelled ‘Lunan Surf Girl’ because it was a picture of a girl surfing on Lunan bay near Montrose on the east coast of Scotland. Either surf girl attracts lots of searches or Lunan Bay.  I’m hoping it is Lunan Bay.
