Losing lenses insurance

Paul Carroll with Camera on location and Dougal - his dog by his sideOne of my worst nightmares is losing all my camera gear, which is carried around most places I go. Careful what you fear because I just suffered the loss of two lenses and a polariser. One lens broke (18 – 55mm zoom) and the other disappeared out of sight (55 -200mm zoom). Problem with the wind and not closing my camera bag.

Photographers should really carry insurance for their gear but not being a fully fledged pro or travelling too far I didn’t. However, contents insurance frequently includes accidental damage of large items out of the home.

I have to say that my insurer, Legal & General, couldn’t have been more straightforward. A bank transfer on its way after one phone call. What could have been a struggle to suffer the loss was easily resolved.

Perhaps you have an insurance story to tell.
