BBC News – Meet the UK’s oldest farmers

When you love being in remote places you wonder what it would be like to try to live sustainably there through farming or crofting. Spare a thought for these pensioners who keep going.

BBC News – Meet the UK’s oldest farmers.

Sadly in the north of Scotland there are many abandoned cottages because the families of the older generation have not wanted to take on this hard but rewarding life. The house is simply never visited again due to the costs of doing it up. The land is often not capable of making an income from through farming.

When we travel around we stop and marvel at many of these abandoned crofts. We have a gallery of images on our website. See abandoned crofts.
