Take a view – Landscape Photographer of the Year

The winners in this year’s Take a view – Landscape Photographer of the Year competition  have been revealed and feature in the book Landscape Photographer of the Year in shops now.

This is my favourite from the winning bunch but  you should visit the website to see all the category winners or buy the book to see a wider selection from the judges. We have the full set of six books. They are full of absolutely beautiful images as well as being an annual inspiration to get outdoors even more next year.

We didn’t win this year ( will try again next year) so here is a couple we submitted.

I like entering a few competition as it can add a bit of extra fun and excitement to your photography. Rules are rules though and you need to read them carefully. This year’s original overall winner as selected by the judges was later disqualified as it turned out he had manipulated the image in the computer. There was no aim to deceive involved, the manipulation was not major and the winner was open about the editing techniques used. The only fault was not reading the rules.

There are thousands of photography competitions so we plan to feature some in this blog as they come up and regular readers can refer to the competition topic for a review of the ones we have participated in or enjoy watching for the outcome.

I have not been able to get to the Dundee Photographic Society this past couple of years since moving house but I can recommend entering club competitions as a good way of developing confidence.

This picture of ours below  titled ‘an island bride’ won a couple of competitions run by island magazines. I plan to pull together a list of the best competitions to enter. Any suggestions will be gratefully received and I will credit who suggests them in the post about the competition.

I’m hoping to catch the Take a View exhibition this side of christmas. It’s always a fantastic collection of images and the printing is of superb quality. That image of Luskentyre beach has a beautiful quality to it.
